Welcome to Holy Tornado!

Storm Chasing with Jeremy Wilson and Aaron Hughes

Holy Tornado!

What, Christian storm chasers?? You bet, hard core and extreme. Our vision is young but the mission is certain. To know God, give to others, build relationships, and take on nature itself where vast columns of air blast straight up into the sky at nearly 100 mph. It is under these updrafts where tornadoes are born, and where you’ll find Aaron Hughes of Dallas, TX and Jeremy Wilson of Thackerville, OK hanging out. For us, it’s Tornado Alley or Bust!

TUE, MAY 9, 2006 -- Large Tornado Hits Towns North of Dallas
North Texas experienced its first tornadoes in quite some time this evening, and unfortunately the results were deadly. With dozens of homes destroyed in Westminster, people are asking why there were no tornado sirens installed in this populated rural town. I didn’t chase today as this caught a lot of people by surprise, but
Jeremy’s account is posted here.

FRI, MAR 24, 2006 -- South Plains / Lubbock Video Grabs Posted

This was by far the craziest chase of last year. We’ve posted video grabs of the Lubbock supercell that nearly flattened the town of Ralls, TX with its multiple simultaneous tornadoes, at times putting down three or four circulations with debris clouds at the same time. Had the storm’s movement taken it even a mile east of the actual track, Ralls would have been directly hit. Thankfully that didn’t happen! Click here to see the pictures.

SAT, MAR 12, 2006 -- Early March Tornado Outbreak
Spring isn’t officially here yet, but we’re already seeing an incredibly active season for tornadoes! Multiple supercells with tornadoes reported in Arkansas, Missouri, and Illinois today, and the year’s first High Risk severe weather outbreak expected tomorrow across the same areas. We won’t be going far from home, but if something happens to fire across northeast Texas (actually the dry line should be sitting right on top of Dallas) then it might be worth a local chase. Final decision expected sometime tomorrow. Everyone please be safe!!

THU, MAR 9, 2006 -- First Chase Lands Tornado in Oklahoma
Yesterday started out as a good practice chase where we could hit the road, try out all the equipment, and hopefully see something interesting on a day that had potential but was turning out to be mostly marginal. Until late in the evening! I had already called it quits and was heading home when a fast-moving supercell ripped across the Red River into Love County, Oklahoma. Jeremy intercepted it near Marietta, and has one incredible story to tell of accidentally cutting it WAY too close for comfort. His chase account and video grabs (to be posted shortly) is proof positive that this storm did produce a brief tornado!

TUE, MAR 7, 2006 -- Enid Hammered, North Texas Next
We decided to call off our chase this morning when it became obvious there was too much cloud cover and too little upper support for thunderstorm initiation across the target area. This held true all afternoon and into the evening darkness, until convergence on an insanely sharp dry line broke through the cap after 7:00pm. The result, a nice isolated supercell with weak rotation dumping golfball size hail on the town of Enid, OK. Now all sights are set on tomorrow as the main trough and associated upper energy approaches north Texas. We’ll be chasing this one, so check out the
Tornado Cam as data coverage should be more than adequate this close to home. Initiation looks to be late afternoon with rough weather in store from Dallas northeastward into the late evening hours. Initial target: Wichita Falls, Texas.

About Us:

Jeremy and Aaron first met while chasing the Montague County supercell of April 2004. That fateful west Texas day produced a thunderstorm that went on for hours and a friendship that’s lasted for years. From tornadoes, lightning and gorilla-size hail to ominous squall lines and weather in general, we each share a passion for the sky above... and the One who created it in knowledge and power (Psalm 19:1-3). Welcome to Holy Tornado!
